Answers to Frequently-Asked Questions

NEW PATIENT CONSULTATIONS

ARE YOU ACCEPTING NEW PATIENTS?

Dr. Katz is currently accepting new patients. There is typically a wait of 4-6 months for a new patient appointment, but we do maintain a cancellation list.

HOW DO I REQUEST A CONSULTATION?

Please either call our practice director at 617-244-7300 x12 or complete this inquiry form and we will be in touch to answer your questions and tell you more about our practice. After that conversation, if you want to move forward, Dr. Katz will ask for a short narrative explaining the care you are seeking and why. From that the doctor will let us know if she thinks she can help you or if she knows of another provider in the area who may be a better fit.

CAN I CONSULT WITH DR. KATZ REMOTELY / VIRTUALLY?

Your initial consultation must take place in our office. Follow-up consultations can be in-person, by video, or by phone, at your option.

If Dr. Katz prescribes medication for you, she will need to see you in person once every 12 months for a targeted physical exam to ensure the continued safety and appropriateness of the medication she prescribes.

FINANCIAL

DO YOU ACCEPT INSURANCE?

Our office does not take insurance assignment as a form of payment -- patients pay our practice directly at the times of their appointments with Dr. Katz. If your insurance covers you for seeing an out-of-network specialist (typically a “PPO” plan) you can submit the medically-coded receipt we give you to your insurance company, and they should reimburse you, at least partially. The amount of reimbursement depends on the terms of your plan – please contact your insurer for details.

HOW CAN I PAY?

We accept personal checks and all debit cards. For direct transfer payments we use Zelle, available through most banks. Please note we do not take credit cards as a form of payment.

CAN I PAY WITH MY FLEXIBLE-SPENDING / HEALTHCARE SAVINGS ACCOUNT CARD?

Yes.

HOW DO YOUR CLINICAL FEES WORK?

There are no membership or concierge fees at Newton Integrative Health. Generally, fees are charged for the time Dr. Katz takes on a patient’s behalf – during appointments and on an as-needed basis between appointments. We’ll be glad to provide details during our first phone conversation with you.

GENERAL CARE QUESTIONS

CAN DR. KATZ BE MY PRIMARY CARE PHYSICIAN?

Sorry, no. While Dr. Katz is a Board-Certified Family Physician, her practice focuses on specialty care in the areas described on this site. She does not provide primary care services.

CAN I BE TREATED WITHOUT USING PRESCRIPTION MEDICATION?

Dr. Katz is supportive of natural remedies and nutritional supplements, and favors the purest and least adulterated forms of prescription medications available. However, she is not a naturopathic doctor. If you are looking for care that specifically excludes prescription medication, a good functional medicine nutritionist or naturopath would be a better fit.

DOES DR. KATZ PRESCRIBE BIO-IDENTICAL HORMONE REPLACEMENT?

Yes, when appropriate.

WHAT TYPES OF LAB TESTING DOES DR. KATZ DO?

Dr. Katz makes full use of comprehensive blood testing as well as advanced functional medicine testing for adrenal function, gut health, nutrition, food sensitivities, and cardiometabolic wellness. We don’t do any lab testing in-house. For blood tests, we’ll send your lab order to you via secure email, and you can print it out and take it to any laboratory you wish. For functional medicine testing, we’ll get you the test kits; you collect the samples at home and send them to the specialty lab for analysis.
